Under The Dome UK Paperbacks

Saw these in London Heathrow over the summer. I think it's really interesting that the UK publisher took this route to sell the book - basically, creating four covers that look like TV mini-series posters. The US paperback cover took a very different direction:

Interesting. I love seeing alternate/foreign editions, but I think the original hardcover version designed by Rex Bonomelli is just fantastic. Especially the fact that it doesn't have flap copy!

I agree. The US PB still has the overall idea that Rex had done, but it looks more like a poster for a movie which i would not be surprised if it ends up being one—and uses that as the poster.

The UK editions are fun, but it almost ends up looking like a series and I think that could be confusing for some buyers. The idea is neat, but that would be my apprehension in going in that direction, although it is clever in it's own UK way.

OK, so Under the Dome is a book that my awesomest friend gave to me and I want to read it on my commute but it's so giant! I do like the eerie look of the original HC the best. But I could be swayed to buy the UK poster-like versions, but if only it meant the book was broken into four parts and slipcased! My poor arms!

You should have seen them on the shelves here in the UK.

I have to say the marketing strategy was brilliant. As much as I like the US cover, I love the fact they tried something so esoteric and original; you have to pick it up just to see what it's about.

Funnily enough I was talking about it today, it's a massive book but so easy to absorb, in the usual King way.

I just don't dig the recent King covers makeover. I'll stick to the 80's which were widely entertaining (It, Tommyknockers, Misery...).

I just came across this post and was interested to see the comments. My first reaction was how far more intriguing the UK cover designs are. The US version is the same old boring predictable same. Interesting to see a general preference for the US version. I can only assume the US has quite a different sense of aesthetic that the UK.
