Gregg Kulick: The Breaking of Eggs

Abba-solutely stunning, Penguin paperback, Summer 2010. A communist curmudgeon who writes travel guides to countries behind the iron curtain is forced to travel to the US in 1991, and awaken from a self-imposed exile into a changed world.

Kulick is a genius. Most of his work is so detailed and filled with delightful ephemera at every glance. There are little layered elements, unique type, odd shapes and borders that peek in and around objects and type. And his color selection is always a treat. I guess one could say that he is not afraid of designing the hell out of something. All of his comps could do as well as the final piece in most cases... One can only hope that the fun never stops...

Nice! The layout is so dynamic— I especially like how the egg-head man almost looks like an upside-down exclamation point.
