Aesthetic Apparatus: The Crying of Lot 49
Kewl kover from AA. This is the story of a woman who acquires her dead boyfriend's estate, which includes a stamp collection, and later discovers a renegade postal service. I love that font for the number 49. I wonder what it references.

Actually, 'All the Sad Young ... Men' was designed by the Heads of State, although they and AA have very similar styles.
I really like this cover, though it's largely just texture and good type choices. It really doesn't try to comment on the text, which maybe is a good idea when dealing with someone as multifaceted as Pynchon ...
I didn't realize that AA designed this cover. I love them both.
eeek! Thanks for the correx, Anonymous.
nice type and textures. The stamp thing seems a bit trite but I get it in light of the books subject.
This is the kind of cover that could benefit from a little print treatments. Hope it's not gloss.
My coworker was reading this book for her writing class - and I couldn't help but peer over at the nice cover treatment. Thanks for the post!
I read this book last year and really liked this cover... The postal horn in the upper portion of the stamp is a reference to a drawing that appears several times in the story, which also deals with conspiracy theories... Wikipedia has some examples of past covers.
Cool post as for me. It would be great to read more concerning this topic. The only thing that blog needs is a few photos of any gizmos.
