Like a good nerd, this cover is prim and proper and perfectly ordered. The way the story begins on the cover and gets cropped off on the bottom reminds me of a nerd going on and on about something no one else is listening to. All in all, charming.
From Scribners:
Most people know a nerd when they see one but can't define just what a nerd is. American Nerd: The Story of My People gives us the history of the concept of nerdiness and of the subcultures we consider nerdy. What makes Dr. Frankenstein the archetypal nerd? Great article, Gould. Thanks. I must admit I flipped through those great photos first - and haven't finished the article. Hmmmm....I guess I'm not really the nerd I thought I was. Are you, Gould?
Unfortunately I'm too old to be a nerd ;-(
Design credit is Jason J. Heuer
Oh Jason, hi! Sorry about that, will fix.
And, great cover!
No problem, thanks for featuring my cover!
Great choice Mr. Flynn!
Yes, Jason Heuer designed it. But John Fulbrook III art directed it. It's always important to recognize everyone who is a part of the process.
Absolutely! John is the highly talented art director on this, Shasti O'Leary Soudant did the gorgeous final artwork, and Brant Rumble was the brilliant editor for this title. Susan Moldow is the publisher of Scribner who approved our final idea along with Benjamin Nugent who penned this clever work, which without, there would be no cover. There are many people involved in a cover's evolution. It is a very collaborative process.
