John Gall: After Dark

Glossy trade paperback cover, with foil dots that shine in rainbow colors! Really yummy.

This novel intercuts three stories that all take place at an all-night Denny's in Tokyo, where Hall & Oates plays in the background.

  1. Don't you think that always putting an Asian on cover seems a bit obvious? It's not very imaginative.

  2. I think that in this series, it works because the art looks like vintage advertising, and because they always play with it - the dots, or the criss-crossing circles of South of the Border, or the luminscent moon in the middle of Wind Up Bird Chronicles.

Plus, there's a big market out there that has a huge crush on Japanese girls.

  3. If you watch the "Covers Stories" video on BarnesandNoble.com, you can see John Gall working on this cover. Great stuff!

  4. A book cover has to sell, right? ;-) Still, i find Kidd's After the quake is much more subtle for example.

Besides, this one has a deja vu flavor.
